Welcome to San Luis Obispo, California
One of California’s oldest communities, it began with the founding of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa in 1772 as the fifth mission in what would become a chain of 21 California missions.
A key feature contributing to the San Luis Obispo’s quality of life is its delightful downtown. The heart of downtown is Mission Plaza, with its creek side setting and beautifully restored Mission Plaza. This historic plaza is complemented by a bustling downtown offering great shopping, outdoor and indoor dining, night life, and its famous Thursday Night Farmers’ Market.
San Luis Obispo is located amidst California’s Central Coast. The surrounding area is a mingling of pristine beaches, quaint cities, lush hillsides, vast vineyards and secluded lakes.

Another popular piece of SLO history is the Jack House. Built in the late 1870s, this historic Victorian home has been fully restored into a "living museum,". Be sure your history tour includes the County Historical Museum, next to the Mission. Learn the story of SLO's colorful history via changing displays of old photographs and artifacts.
